Founded on July 24, 1701, by the French explorer and adventurer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Caddilac. Detroit was called "Paris of the Midwest" for its French heritage, architecture and streets designed as Parisian Boulevards by Augustus B. Woodward.
